THE DRAGON’S FLAME
Whether you’re hosting a book club or looking for something to make on your own, here are some tried and tested drinks that are sure to invoke a fiery feeling.
Ingredients:
1.5 oz smoky mezcal* (a fiery taste to represent our charred enemies)
0.5 oz spiced rum* (to invoke adventure)
0.75 oz blood orange juice (to quench Andarna’s desire to eat everything she encounters)
0.5 oz lime juice (because it’s tart like tairn)
0.5 oz dragon fruit syrup (or sub for grenadine)
A pinch of edible glitter (to emulate dragon scales)
1 oz ginger beer (spicy with a pinch of sweetness, just like Andarna)
Flamed orange peel or a sprig of rosemary for garnishing
Black salt & sugar to rim a rocks glass
*For a non-alcoholic version, sub mezcal and rum with non-alcoholic spirits. For a sweeter taste, you can sub with cranberry, pomegranate, or pineapple juice.
Instructions:
For the dragon fruit syrup:
Combine equal parts dragon fruit puree and sugar in a saucepan.
Heat on low, stirring until the sugar dissolves.
Cool and strain into a bottle.
For the cocktail:
Rim a rocks glass with lime juice, black lava salt, & sugar.
Combine mezcal, spiced rum, blood OJ, lime juice, and dragon fruit syrup in a shaker.
Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
Top with ginger beer and give it a gentle stir.
Add edible glitter & garnish with a flamed orange peel or a rosemary sprig to evoke the essence of dragons.
